Monday, July 30, 2018

In an effort to raise the public's awareness in taking precautionary measures and encourage responsible social media use, a mechanism for reporting 'viral' or fake news was introduced on 30  July 2018.  Members of the public who have information regarding viral and baseless news involving public or national interests are now able to report this information by calling 123 (Talian Darussalam). The method for reporting viral issues in social media was introduced by Talian Darussalam 123 and CAC with the involvement of the Ministry of Transport and Infocommunications (MTIC), Community Development Department (JAPEM), Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Religious Affairs, Internal Security Department, Attorney General's Chambers, Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT) and AITI.

With the widespread exposure to online content, each individual plays a crucial role in practising safe and responsible use of technology.  Members of the public are advised to be wary and inspect the source of information in social media to ensure its validity before it is shared to the public.
