Compound Fined Issued to Vessel for Offence Under Telecommunications Order, 2001

A company operating a vessel in Brunei waters was issued a warning notice and compound fine of Brunei Dollars Seven Hundred Only [BND700.00] for committing an offence under S35(1) of the Telecommunications Order, 2001. The company was found to be operating several radio-communications equipment and was in possession of a Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) equipment on board the said vessel without the necessary licences.

The Authority would like to caution the public that unlicensed systems or services may cause harmful interference to critical infrastructure and essential services, which may hinder day-to-day operations of Government agencies, local service providers, educational institutions and businesses that rely on telecommunications.

Businesses and the general public are encouraged to apply via AITI’s Online Services portal at https://online.aiti.gov.bn to obtain the relevant licences pertaining to establishment, installation, maintenance, provision or operation of any system or service related to telecommunications or radio-communications. Members of the public can also help in AITI’s efforts to curb any unlicensed activities by lodging their complaints via e-mail to info@aiti.gov.bn.
