Effective from 14 March 2023, AITI has been appointed as the regulatory authority to ensure that postal services are reasonably accessible for all people in Brunei Darussalam.
Under the Postal Services Act, Chapter 271, AITI’s powers include the power to grant, modify and suspend or cancel postal licences, issue codes of practice, directions and advisory guidelines on any aspect of postal services and postal systems as necessary.
Postal Services are the conveyance of postal articles from one place to another by post and this includes receiving, collecting, sorting, sending, despatching and delivering within and in/ out of Brunei Darussalam.
First Public Consultation
AITI released a Public Consultation Paper (PCP) on 21 December 2020 to obtain feedback from postal sector, stakeholders and the general public on the proposed postal licensing and regulatory framework.
Second Public Consultation
On 5 August 2022, AITI conducted a follow-up from the first PCP to seek further feedback on the proposed licence fee structure.
Report: Consultation on Regulatory Documents for the Postal Sector in Brunei Darussalam
On 10 December 2024, the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (“AITI”) issued a Consultation Paper to seek views on the Service Code for the Public Postal Licensee (PPL Service Code) and Code of Practice for Mail Integrity in the Postal Sector (Mail Integrity Code). This report summarises the responses received to this consultation.
