TRAININGS ON FUTURE DIGITAL SKILLS

One of the roles of the Industry Development Group at AITI is to ensure the capacity development of local ICT talents with digital future-ready skills through various initiatives and programmes including awareness, competitions and trainings. Below are two on-going trainings offered by AITI:

  2. UPSKILLING TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR LOCAL YOUTH JOBSEEKERS AND LOCAL ICT WORKFORCE

CODING ACADEMY - CODING.BN


Introduction

Coding.bn is a learning academy to train youth jobseekers with the necessary in-demand programming skills so they are more employable and industry-ready. It also aims to tackle the issue on unemployment in Brunei Darussalam. It is a six-month programme initiated by AITI, where it was officially launched by Yang Mulia Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Matsatejo bin Sokiaw, Deputy Minister of Energy and Chairman of AITI on 12 March 2021. 


Objectives

  • Facilitate the training and provide mentorship in sharpening participants' programming skills as well to equip them with industry-ready skills.
  • Increase the chances of the participants' to be employed especially in the field of programming.
  • Facilitate the upskilling of participants with industry competencies based on the demand and requirements of potential hosting/hiring entities.


Eligibility

  • Citizen or permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam.
  • Aged between 18 to 35 years old at the time of registration.
  • Currently unemployed.
  • Minimum academic qualification of Higher National Diploma (HND) in any ICT related field. 


Programme Content

Participants will undergo three months of full-time classes followed by three months of on-the-job training with continuous mentorship throughout the whole duration. 

Participants will learn technical competencies particularly on front-end and back-end programming, as well as other skills such as data analytics and design thinking.  The participants will also be exposed to various types of programming languages based on the industry demands, as well as real life ICT projects during on-the-job training at respective host entities. 

At the end of the programme, participants are expected to gain intermediate level of skills in the identified programming languages and to continue working with host companies upon job offers.

 

Host Organisations

AITI also welcomes any ICT companies or other organisations who are interested to become the hosting entity or potential hiring entity for the Coding.bn participants.

 

Openings

Cohort 1 was completed on 30 September 2021. AITI intends to open registration for the second intake (Cohort 2) in mid-July 2022, where it is expected to start in October 2022 and complete in March 2023.

UPSKILLING TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR LOCAL YOUTH JOBSEEKERS AND LOCAL ICT WORKFORCE


Introduction

As Brunei Darussalam undergoes digital transformation towards a Smart Nation, AITI has been introducing various initiatives to prepare and train the locals with relevant skills related to Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) such as Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence.

 

One of the initiatives is the Upskilling Training Programme for Local Youth Jobseekers and Local ICT Workforce that aims to facilitate the upskilling and reskilling of participants with industry-ready competencies based on the demand and requirements of hiring entities.

 

Objectives

  • Improve knowledge and skills by providing technical training, business and mobile applications to local individuals in the field of ICT in moving towards the digital economy and the Industrial Revolution 4.0.
  • Equip locals with globally-recognised professional industry ICT certification as well as increasing employment opportunities for local youth jobseekers.

 

Subsidy

Eligible participants from the ICT Workforce will receive up to 70% subsidy.
Eligible participants from Youth Jobseekers will receive 100% subsidy.


Eligibility

Local ICT Workforce Local Youth Jobseekers
Citizen or permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam Citizen or permanent resident of Brunei Darussalam
Must be at least 18 years old on the day of registration Must be at least between 18 to 35 years old on the day of registration
Currently holding a job in an ICT-related field in the private sector in Brunei Darussalam Must possess at least a National Diploma (ND) with demonstrated academic experience in an ICT related field
Must attend the majority of the classes held by the appointed trainer(s) Must attend the majority of the classes held by the appointed trainer(s)
Must pass the necessary course examination in order to obtain the recognised official industry certification for the specific course. The exam must be taken within two (2) weeks of attending that particular course. Any re-sits must be taken within two (2) weeks from the initial exam. Must undergo the necessary examination in order to obtain the recognised official industry certification for the specific course undertaken.
  Must be currently unemployed and actively seeking for a job in the ICT industry
