Telecommunications and radiocommunications equipment must be type approved for use and sale in Brunei Darussalam.
Any equipment that is not approved will be exported back to country of origin by the importer.
Dealer Licence holders must apply for Dealer Type Approval before they can import the equipment for sale. Applications are based on the model to be imported. Dealers must have a valid Dealer Licence issued by AITI.
Personal Type Approval
Personal Type Approval can be applied for by individuals for personal use only i.e. not for resale purposes.
Dealers are required to complete AITI’s Type Approval Application Form before importing equipment. Completed forms are to be submitted to AITI together with the following documents:
Equipment brochure.
Declaration of conformity for the equipment from accreditation body or test report from testing laboratories or certification bodies for conformity assessment for telecommunication equipment, or copy of IDA Equipment Registration, or copy of Type Approval from SIRIM QAS Malaysia (including covering letter of the dealer if the report is taken from a website).
Invoice of the equipment.
Personal Type Approval
Detention Receipt (Notice of Seizure) from Royal Customs & Excise, Ministry of Finance, Brunei Darussalam.
Fees are calculated directly to number of item a customer imports.
The type approval fee is $50 for one unit. However, for some equipment:
First unit cost B$50 and B$300 for each and every other units.
e.g.: Mobile phone, Satellite phone, Cordless telephone set*, Amateur radio.
First five units costs B$50 each and B$300 for each and every other units.
e.g.: Multifeature/Standard telephone, Modem, PABX, Marine radio, Remote control TX for car.
* A set includes a base station and several cordless handsets.
