International Relations Group (IR)
International Relations Group is coordinating and representing the country at various International meetings, workshops and forums in order to keep abreast with international changes and development in the areas of Info-Communication Technology. IR group also coordinate with Ministry of Communications, other government ministries and agencies as well as other SMEs in Brunei Darussalam in order to promote the International activities. Amongst some of the International activities are:
- ASEAN Telecommunications Senior Official Meetings (Telsom) and Telecommunications Ministerial Meetings (Telmin),
- Asean Telecommunications Regulatory Council (ATRC)
- Asia Pacific Economic Council Telecommunications (APECTEL) meetings,
- Asia Pacific Telecommunity (APT) meetings,
- International Telecommunication Union meetings,
- The Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the EU and Brunei Darussalam (PCA),
- Transpacific Strategic Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP)
- World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC)
Key Asean Telsom / Telmin activities are:
- Promoting the newly launched Asean ICT master plan to the various stakeholders in order to create projects that can advance ICT development and benefit amongst Asean member countries.
- ATRC meets regularly to coordinate and harmonize frequency spectrum utilization as well as to manage the telecommunications industry effectively among the Asean member countries.
Key APECTEL activities are:
- Actively participate and contribute ideas as well as share knowledge and experience in various working groups within APECTEL.
- Learning and adopting best practices and standards on ICT development among the APEC member economies who are well in advance in their ICT industry development.
- Hosting APECTEL meeting.
Key APT activities are:
- As a member of APT, AITI benefits from attending various APT organized ICT related workshops that address common issues among Asia Pacific telecommunications community.
- Scouts for technical assistance from APT experts who have already experiences in various large scale ICT deployments.
Key ITU activities are:
- Engaging expertise from ITU’s vast qualified human resources in order to assist Brunei Darussalam to promote International standard of operation in the Info-Communications Technology Development.
- Attend various ITU forums in order to gain advance knowledge as well as to meet and share experiences with international subject experts.
International Trade Agreements
- Cautiously and actively participated in negotiating trade agreements amongst various international groupings in order to ensure mutual benefit in the ICT Industry development.
- Coordinate effectively with Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in providing technical and trade information.
